Mechanical Intestinal Obstruction in Children

Abstract
|
|
|
1) Sixty-five cases of mechanical intestinal obstruction under the age of 15years seen at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital between the period Jan. 1962 to June 1968 reviewed.
2) Analysis of 65 cases of mechanical intestinal bostruction were 31 cases of intussusception, 13 cases of adhesion, 10 cases of incarcerated hernia, 6 cases of imperforated anus, 2 cases of congenital atresia of intestine, and 1 case of volvulus.
3) Age, Sex ratio, and types of intussusception & adhesion were similar to the figures reported in the literatures.
4) Overall mortality was 6.6% and was due to delayed diagnosis and associated diseases.
5) The mortality of intestinal obstruction in children could be reduced by early diagnosis and prompt careful surgical treatment.
